DUTIES OF LEADER AND CO-LEADER

Leader

A good Leader determines the wishes of the majority and disregards any conflicting personal preference. The Leader carries the wishes of the majority while adhering to the rules and philosophies of TOPS Club, Inc.

 

 1.  The Leader shall:

  • Preside at all regular or special meetings of the chapter and at all meetings of the Executive Committee.
  • Be punctual and start all meetings on time
  • If Leader cannot attend, Leader must arrange for Co-Leader to run the meeting. All materials, guidebooks, rules, and bylaws are to be provided to Co-Leader before meeting.
  • Appoint a Weight Recorder and, if needed, an Assistant Weight Recorder.
  • Appoint a program chairman, host/hostess, reporter, photographer, and other such positions as the chapter deems necessary.
  • Carry through the TOPS program by the use of My Day One, TOPS guide books, and Chapter Programs at regular meetings. Pass these materials on to the next Leader at the end of your term.
  • Serve as the mailing contact for the Coordinator and TOPS Club, Inc. Bring all mail to the meeting to review and distribute.
  • Inform the chapter of contents or correspondence with the Coordinator and TOPS Club, Inc. 
  • Forward forms, records, and information relative to chapter activities as required by the Coordinator.
  • Review weight records weekly for completeness, accuracy, and progress of members.

 2.  The Leader reads and follows the TOPS Rules, KOPS Rules, the Chapter Guide, the Weight Recording Guide, and chapter bylaws for answers to questions. Encourage all other officers and members to do likewise.

 

 3.  A maximum of TWO meetings may be cancelled each calendar year if unavoidable without notice to the Coordinaotr. If others must be called off, notify Coordinator of the necessity.

 

 4.  If the Leader resigns, the Co-Leader may fill the slot or a new Leader is elected. Form L-023 is to be completed and sent to Coordinator immediately.

 

 5.  Assemble Chapter Programs in a notebook for all members to use when planning programs.

 

 6.  Use The Choice is Mine provided by headquarters to help each other develop  sensible eating habits and learn more about healthy lifestyles. Individual copies may be purchased through the chapter on the Awards Order Form or individually at www.tops.org using a credit card. Each member should be encouraged to have a personal copy.

 

 7.  Plan contests to include all members whenever possible. Competition should be fun and encourage increased activity, healthy eating, participation, and consistency. Use TOPS Awards as incentives.

 

 8.  Always be positive with a  gainer or slow loser. We are here to encourage and help. We cannot help if a person quits coming to chapter.

 

 9.  SHARE RESPONSIBILITY. TOPS is a GROUP effort. Involve everyone in making the chapter great. Here are just a few of the possibities to help:

  • Photographer
  • Scrapbook
  • Reporter
  • Song Leader
  • Programs
  • Welcome Committee
  • Awards
  • Ceremonies
  • Contests
  • Fund-Raisers

10.  Give out My Day One and new member packets.

 

11.  Review records with fellow officers at a monthly executive meeting of elected officers and Weight Recorders. Discuss ways to improve meetings, help each other, and resolve any problems. Go over the following at this time as well:

  • Renewals due for the coming month
  • TOPS and KOPS awards earned which need to be ordered and presented. Promptly recognizing efforts and achievement is most important.
  • Chapter finances
  • Activities and programs for meetings in the coming month

12.  Keep a history sheet or card file of each member on which is listed all TOPS and KOPS information.

 

13.  Attend all special meetings held by Field Staff in the area throughout the year as well as the annual Recognition Days. Sharing successes, ideas, and enthusiasm at these gatherings will help you be even more effective as a Leader. Encourage fellow members to attend with you.

Co-Leader

  1. The Co-Leader shall assist the Leader in the performance of duties.
  2. Presides at all meetings in the absence of the Leader.
  3. Temporarily assumes the duties of the Secretary, Treasurer, Weight Recorder, or Assistant Weight Recorder in the absence of such officers until a special election or appointment (whichever applies) fills a permanently vacated office.
