Action: Build the habit of having water with you at all times.

Now that you've taken the all-important first step to break your first diet vice by replacing it with much needed water, it is important that you estimate how much an adequate amount is for you. While everyone's needs are different, a general estimate of how much water we should aim to consume is very easily determined by this formula:

Your body weight in pounds divided by 2 =

targeted ounces of water per day

If you are concerned that you'll never be able to drink the recommended amount of water for your weight - don't worry about that right now. Again, focus on getting more water than you did yesterday, and shoot to reach a certain number, like 64 ounces per day, before worrying about drinking what's recommended. If you get halfway to that number, I'm sure you will be feeling the benefits enough at that point to either increase the amount you're drinkinig, or continue to get as much as you are now.

The most important part of this action is getting into the habit of having your water within reach just about everywhere you go and drink from it regularly.

Were you able to drink more water than yesterday?

I worry about germs when I take a bottle of water with me, specially since my hands are very dirty when I am at work and hand washing stations are far away. I will take mine in a plastic bag and keep it covered. I will try taking smaller containers and drinking them all at once, too.

I measured out the quantity of water that was recommended for me according to the calculations given. Put it in a pitcher in the fridge with a note stating it was my water so no one else would drink it. I also placed it so that when the fridge door was opened that was the first thing I saw.
This for me is the easiest way to keep track as I do not have to remember to mark it down.
I have one mug to go and it is all gone. It helped me to really cut back on the diet coke I usually drink.
The scary part is, I have not been going to the bathroom as much as I thought I would with all that extra water, which means I must have been dehydrated and did not realise it.

Your idea seems great Ellen. I should try that tomorrow as today I bombed. I definitely didn't get more water than yesterday. Only had 7 cups of water/clear tea today. Tomorrow is a new day!

Diet Coke is a diuretic so you probably were dehydrated a bit and your cells are soaking up the water :)

How did your plan go Melody about your water? Were you able to get it all in at once in smaller containers?

I took in about the same amount of water as yesterday. I remembered to take my water bottle to work with me, but I only filled it up once.

Didn't do too bad today-- managed to get in 8 cups. 6 Water, and 2 black coffee. And yes I did get rid of a lot of it.

:S Well yesterday didn't go very well. I only managed 6 glasses of water, but the 12 glasses from Monday was a hard on to beat.

So I think my goal will be to beat my 6 glasses.

    Much more attainable.

No, I just couldn't make myself drink in dirty surroundings. I had extra water at supper and one extra glass after 7pm and it didn't make me get up through the night.
