Actions:

  1. Carry a water bottle with you and drink plenty of water.
  2. Substitute a healthy food in place of your food vice.
  3. Replace sedentary TV/Computer time with exercise.

Because you are focusing on exercise this week, it is important that you find one you can do routinley that is comfortable.

If you walk on a treadmill every day for 30 minutes and get into the habit of doing that every day, you will build confidence in yourself and your abilities.

Having a time set for exercise and a particular exercise to engage in takes away any guesswork and makes you accountable (to yourself) because you will have the time scheduled for your exercise, and you will have the exercise you are going to perform already picked out.

Remember, one reason we have an obesity epidemic is because of the difficulty we have changing our daily habits.

What a better way to change than by keeping things as simple as possible to start.

MASTER ONE EXERCISE

Mastering an exercise involves:

  1. Knowledge of the exercise being performed;
  2. Familiarity with the uses of any equipment needed;
  3. Having the clothes needed for different conditons;
  4. Knowing the level of intensity to keep you within your ideal heart range;
  5. A set time and location where such exercise is normally performed;
  6. Having the ability to perform it at a sustained level for at least 30 minutes;
  7. Doing it at least 3 times a week consistently for 12 weeks.

Approach exercise with the conviction that you are going to learn the what, when , where, and how of one enjoyable exercise in order to master it, after which you will grow to learn more about other types of exercise and options. In this way you are fully committing yourself to the long-term healthy lifestyle.

What exercise are you going to "master"

    This will be a hard one for me as I like switching my exercise routine around and number 7 says doing it 3 times a week consistently for 12 weeks - wow! I'll have to think on this one for a bit to figure out my "favorite" dvd.

    I am doing more exercise now that I am doing it while watching TV. I am also not on the computer as much as I am trying to shift my focus away from doing activities that require a lot of sitting and doing more that require movement.
    I wonder though if they are meaning to do the same thing 3 times a week, or just making sure you exercise 3x's a week? I too enjoy variety, alternating between walking, chair exercise and hanging out with Richard. The important thing here is to keep moving.
