Actions:

  1. Carry a water bottle with you an drink plenty of water.
  2. Substitute a healthy food in place of your food vice.

At the end of two weeks the changes that you feel at this point - mentally, emotionally, physically and possibly spiritually - should be noticeable. If not, let's just say you have not moved as quickly as you would have like to. The good news is that it is not a race. You can set a pace that is comfortable and effective for YOU.

WEEK TWO REVIEW

Today's self-evaluation will help to determine the strengths of your action and the areas that need improving.

How do I feel about my progress up to this point?

How does my body feel now compared to when I started?

Can I do more to improve upon what I have done so far?

Is this something I think I can do for the rest of my life?

Do I feel deprived or empowered?

These questions are strictly meant for the purpose of strengthening your mental resolve to improve your life. If you can give a positive answer to at least three of the five then you have made progress.

My water intake still takes thought and there are some days that I haven't met my goal BUT as for my food vice - mine was to make breakfast a must to jumpstart my body and brain and to hopefully cut back on my calorie consumption through the day. I just finished my 7th breakfast in 7 days. I do feel with a little thought I could easily keep breakfast topping the list. I have rethought breakfast and it doesn't always have to be this grand production - in fact one of my favorite is now vanilla yogurt with kashi go lean cereal (I don't handle milk well on its own). My body does seem to enjoy its breakfast and on days I get my water it is happier too!

I could definitely do this as I didn't take anything away in fact I added a meal - breakfast so no I don't feel deprived.

BREAKFAST - it does a body good :)

No, I am not feeling deprived, and maybe I'm just beginning to feel the stirrings of empowerment. I have been saving a few more calories to use just before bed. A few fresh strawberries, some diet jello, a bran bar and two rice cakes with diet jam. This is a quarter of what I normally eat before bed, but is just as satisfying.... I will continue to pare it down a little at a time. Also trying to keep up a piece of fruit or V8 for breakfast at least.

    Hi;

The increase in water intake and omitting one vice food daily
really seems to be working. This past week I lost 2.25 lbs at my weigh in. And I could feel that I was able to control my food intake much better. I also felt more energetic and incorporated more exercise into my week.

Now I'll see if I can carry this through. Due to circumstances, I was home alone for the most of these two weeks. My husband returns and we'll see if I can maintain the same level of purpose and not be side tracked.

I love hearing about the successes in weight loss the different members in this book challenge have been taking - an not only with weight lost - but energy level and more.

Thank you all for coming on this journey with me.

Goo luck Anne for when your husband returns - it can be easier sometimes when there are no distractions that is for sure :)

Do we ever stop to think that the food we need is merely fuel to keep our body functioning healthily?

In many ways it is no different from purchasing high quality gasoline to run our automobiles. Our taste buds have become a pleasure gauge rather than a quality gauge. We no longer look for the taste that is healthy (void of too much salt, sugar, spice), but instead become more focused on how pleasing a food is to our palate. Food and drinks have become things of pleasure and are no longer viewed just as a source of needed fuel.

WHERE ARE YOU NOW?

First, water should be a part of your life throughout the day. Start your morning by drinking an 8 ounce glass of water. One glass will be out of your way before you even begin your day. You are going to be amazed at how soon, if you don't already, crave water.

Secondly, you should realize by now whether your food vice has had control over your weight in the past. At the one week point I notice many people begin to have a difficult time giving up their food vice. There is a point where your mind may tell you it's okay to have "just a bite" or "just one." These urges may be tough to ward off, but you've got to do it. The only way you know you are in control is to say no, at least for now.
